How To Set Honda Cruise Control

You do not have to worry about maintaining a set speed when driving your brand-new Honda because it comes equipped with a cruise control system.  You can also set it to maintain a constant speed or a constant distance from the vehicle ahead.

Using cruise control is a convenient option when driving on highways or long stretches of roads without stoplights or intersections. Learn how to set up Honda cruise control below!

Cruise Control Feature

Cruise control allows you to maintain a set speed without keeping your foot on the accelerator pedal over 25 mph (40 km/h).

The ideal place to cruise is on straight and open highways. In cities, on windy roads, on slippery roads, when it is raining heavily, or when the weather is bad, you should not use this feature.

How to Use Cruise Control

  • You can control cruise control by pressing the Cruise Control Master Button on the steering wheel. On the instrument panel, a light displays CRUISE MAIN.
  • It is desirable to cruise at a speed greater than 25 miles per hour (40 KPH).
  • DECEL/SET buttons are located on the steering wheel. Ensure that the buttons are pressed and released.
  • On the instrument panel, the cruise control light illuminates when the system is engaged.
  • With cruise control, it may be difficult to maintain the set speed as you ascend and descend hills. On a hill, if your speed increases, use the brakes to slow down.
  • The cruise control will be turned off. It is possible to resume your set speed by pressing the RES/ACCEL button. Immediately after this, the cruise control light will return to the instrument panel.

Adjusting the Set Speed

Increasing the set cruising speed can be accomplished in the following ways:

  • Press RES/ACCEL and hold it down. Once you reach cruising speed, you can release the button.
  • Step on the accelerator pedal. When you've reached the speed you want, press the DECEL/SET button.
  • A small increment of speed can be increased by tapping the RES/ACCEL button. The result is an increase of approximately one mile per hour (1.6 kilometers per hour) in your vehicle's speed.

Ways to Lower Your Set Cruising Speed

  • Press and hold the DECEL/SET button. Release the button when you reach the desired speed.
  • Your car will slow down if you repeatedly tap the DECEL/SET button. Over time, your vehicle will slow down by about 1.6 kilometers per hour (one mile).
  • By lightly tapping the clutch or brake pedals, you can increase the pressure. An instrument panel light indicates that the cruise control is off.
  • Once the car has slowed to the desired speed, press the DECEL/SET button.
  • While cruise control is turned on, you can still use the accelerator pedal to speed up. Upon completing the pass, release the accelerator pedal.
  • A vehicle will resume its set cruise speed once it reaches its set cruising speed. Cruise control will be disabled if you rest your foot on the brake or clutch pedals.

Conclusion

It's important to understand how cruise control works. As you cannot adjust your set speed according to your circumstances, this feature makes it easier for you to remain attentive at all times. However, cruise control can be turned off automatically by pressing the accelerator or brake pedal.
